Welcome to International Community Health Services

International Community Health Services (ICHS) is a nonprofit community health center that offers affordable health care services to Seattle and King County’s Asian, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities, and the broader community. ICHS provides primary medical and dental care, health support services, and health education in seven locations.

ICHS has been a vital part of the community since opening in 1973 as a small, storefront clinic in Seattle’s International District. Today, it is the largest Asian, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander community health center in Washington state. ICHS is fully accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). ICHS was presented by Washington Gov. Jay Inslee with the 2015 Warren Featherstone Reid Award for Excellence in Health Care, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services named ICHS the only “National Quality Leader” in Washington state in 2015 for exceeding national quality benchmarks for health care.

Gates Foundation employees' giving create brighter holidays for ICHS patients

Many thanks to the employees at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation!

Because of their generosity, our patients’ holidays were made brighter with gifts of baby blankets, children’s toys, warm clothes and gift cards for groceries.

This is the second year that ICHS has received holiday gifts for our patients through the Gates Foundation employees’ holiday giving tree.

Cervical Cancer Awareness Month Poster

Health care professionals promote January as Cervical Cancer Awareness Month

January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, a great time to focus on promoting cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccination. Under the Affordable Care Act, nearly all health insurance plans cover cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccination at no cost. However, many women are still not getting screened and many adolescents are not getting the full HPV immunization series.

Health care providers and specialists are in an ideal position to promote cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccination among their patients.

News from ICHS

Holly Groat (left) checks in with Louisa Liu, ICHS patient services representative, for her dental appointment.

ICHS patient turns dental appointments to day in town

When Holly Groat has an appointment to see her dentist at International Community Health Services (ICHS) in the International District, she and her husband, Albert, make a day of it.

“We love coming out here, just walking around the International District, checking out the restaurants and seeing the sights,” she said. “We’re very interested in seeing the Bruce Lee exhibit at the Wing Luke museum because we’re big Bruce Lee fans.”

Likewise, going to the ICHS International District Dental Clinic is like a visit with old friends.

“Everyone here is so friendly, so competent, and very concerned for their patients,” she said. “They also do great dental work.”

Groat, 63, of Ballard, found ICHS several years ago though a community group she volunteers with, when she inquired about finding affordable dental care. She said ICHS reminds her of growing up in a small neighborhood, where everyone looked after each other.
