International Community Health Services (ICHS) officially opened its Shoreline Medical & Dental Clinic on Monday September 15, 2014, giving residents in the area another option for high quality and affordable health care.
The new clinic is located just north of 165th Street on Aurora Avenue North. It has 20 medical exam rooms and 10 dental chairs, with 80 parking spaces for patients. This is ICHS’s fourth full-service clinic and its seventh service site. It is projected to serve nearly 12,000 patients each year once it reaches full capacity. The clinic is the first-ever community health center in the City of Shoreline. The expansion of ICHS, which will includes the opening of a smaller clinic in Bellevue early this year, reflects the emergence of ICHS as a regional health care provider, not simply a Seattle-based organization.
“The first day went really well and everything went as planned,” said Sherman Lohn, Director of Operations at ICHS, “The patients were really glad that we had opened a clinic in the area.”

This summer, International Community Health Services (ICHS) will add four dental chairs at its International District (ID) site to meet the growing demand for affordable dental services in the neighborhood.
“We have always seen a steady flow of patients at the ID Dental Clinic, but we’ve had many more patients come through in the last few months due to the reinstatement of preventive dental coverage for adults on Medicaid,” says ICHS Dental Director Ji Choi. “By adding four more operatories, we will be able to see more patients and hopefully, reduce the wait time for those seeking care.”
With the addition of the four new dental chairs, the ID Dental Clinic will grow to a total of 12 operatories. Last year, ICHS increased its capacity to see more patients at its Holly Park Clinic as well by adding two dental operatories. (The site now has a total of eight chairs.) In recent months, ICHS also launched a Mobile Dental Clinic that provides on-site services at 10 Seattle-area schools and opened a new clinic in Bellevue which houses eight dental operatories. By the end of August 2014, construction for the new ICHS Shoreline Medical & Dental Clinic will be complete, and the brand-new facility is slated to have 10 dental operatories.
“Having access to regular and preventive dental care is such an important part of your overall health,” continues Choi. “Many of the patients who come to our clinic have no other options for affordable services. That’s why ICHS is grateful to our funders and partners who support us in fulfilling our mission to provide care to those who need it most.”
The ID Dental Clinic expansion was made possible with financial support from the Covidien NACHC Challenge Grant Program and the Washington Dental Service Foundation.

International Community Health Services (ICHS) was recently awarded $30,000 from the D.V. & Ida McEachern Charitable Trust to support the costs of purchasing equipment to furnish the pediatric dental operatory on the second floor of the new ICHS Shoreline clinic, scheduled for completion in August, 2014.
“A separate dental operatory for children and adolescents is important because of special considerations for interaction between dental provider, parents or guardian and the child,” states ICHS Dental Director Ji Choi. “Younger patients have distinct needs because of the maturation of their teeth, jaws and gums. Thanks to this generous grant, ICHS will be able to provide early assessment, treatment and counseling for young people in a more cost-effective way.”
The new ICHS facility will be the first-ever community health center in the City of Shoreline. The Shoreline clinic will have 20 medical examination rooms, 10 dental chairs, an in-house pharmacy and laboratory, a community hall, and classrooms for health education programs.

Nearly one year ago, ICHS first broke ground at the site of its future Shoreline clinic. After months of construction, the brand new medical-dental facility is approaching completion and scheduled to open within the next three months.
The new ICHS Shoreline clinic, the first-ever community health center in the city, will be located on Aurora Avenue North, just north of 165th Street. The area was identified as an ideal location for a new ICHS clinic site because of its sizable Asian Pacific Islander and immigrant community and a significant level of unmet need for affordable and in-language health services.
The 40,000 square-foot facility will have 20 medical examination rooms, 10 dental chairs, an in-house pharmacy and laboratory, a community hall, and classrooms for health education programs.
“The Shoreline community is looking forward to the opening of the new ICHS clinic. It will provide much-needed services for our residents and add to the rich network of programs and organizations that are working together to keep our community healthy,” says Armilito Pangilinan, ICHS board member and Shoreline resident.”
This past May, ICHS opened another clinic in Bellevue, expanding its network of care to areas outside of its traditional base in Seattle.

This past May, over 400 ICHS supporters packed the Seattle Marriott Waterfront ballroom to help raise money for vital health services for the neediest members of our community. The 2014 Bloom Gala was the largest-ever event in ICHS history, bringing in over $205,000 to help pay for health care for uninsured and underinsured patients at ICHS’s clinics.
“It was heartening to see the generosity of our supporters at the Bloom Gala, especially at a time when so many of them have already pledged a significant donation towards our Capital Campaign,” said ICHS Foundation Director Ron Chew.
The 2014 Bloom Gala highlighted the opening of ICHS’s two new medical-dental clinics in Bellevue and Shoreline and the launch of its Mobile Dental Clinic. The Bellevue location opened in May 2014 and construction of the Shoreline clinic will be completed by August 2014. The opening of these new facilities will transform ICHS into a regional provider of affordable and in-language health care, with the ability to bring its successful blueprint for care to the region’s growing Asian Pacific Islander and immigrant communities.
“These are exciting times for ICHS. We are at special juncture in our history as we begin to establish a physical presence in new neighborhoods and create new partnerships. We are grateful for the continued support of our generous partners and excited to see what the future will bring for ICHS.”

The Puget Sound Affiliate of Susan G. Komen recently awarded ICHS with a grant of over $50,000 to help pay for community outreach, prevention and education on breast health.
“This funding has been instrumental in helping ICHS reach out to low income and limited English Proficient Asian and Pacific Islander communities. Our staff help women overcome barriers for getting regular screenings for breast cancer,” said Michael McKee, ICHS Director of Health Services and Community Partnerships. “Thanks to partners like Komen Puget Sound, ICHS is able to address the significant health disparities related to the diagnosis, treatment, and survival.”
