"I feel truly blessed to have ICHS in my life and as part of my family."
If it wasn’t for ICHS’ amazing prenatal care, my youngest son would not be alive today.
My name is Emily Anderson. I am a single mother working three jobs to raise four children. I have been going to International Community Health Services since 1999. I travel from my home in Puyallup to the ICHS clinic in Seattle because of the deep trust I have for the medical and dental teams. They understand and respect me. The one-hour, 36-mile commute is worth it because my doctors know my children and my health history inside and out. I could go to any big, Puyallup hospital for an emergency, but I will only go to ICHS for our checkups and regular doctor and dentist visits.
I earn $25,000 a year and I have no family support. I rely on ICHS for quality health care and staff who treat me like family. If it wasn’t for ICHS’ amazing prenatal care, my youngest son would not be alive today. His was a difficult pregnancy when I was 45. Jacob was a “blue baby,” meaning he had an abnormally large heart and would need several heart surgeries. I found out when I was six months pregnant that he would not live without the surgeries. My doctor provided wonderful care and helped me understand my son’s health condition even before he was born. He is now five years old and has undergone five heart surgeries.
With Apple Health, I can see a doctor for any medical need and get my teeth cleaned. My kids also receive all their medical and dental care at ICHS. My 16-year-old son, Joseph, had over 15 cavities. ICHS staff didn’t put any fear in Joseph or make him feel bad or scared. ICHS referred us to the University of Washington and got the complicated dental work done right away.
I feel truly blessed to have ICHS in my life and as part of my family. The excellent health care and support from ICHS allow me to focus on taking care of my children’s other needs.
