I can help make a difference in patients’ lives, especially those who don't speak English. Being able to communicate with them in their language, give them the proper treatment, and then actually explain everything to them. This is what makes me happy. This is what I want to do.

The Internship Experience
The ICHS Dental Assistant Internship Program is a highly-valued, intensive 6-month program offered biannually that prepares our interns for a professional career as a dental assistant. Students receive full benefits and compensation from day one of their training where they are partnered with our clinic supervisors for 1:1 instruction and work alongside the whole team of dental assistants.
Students advance in the curriculum by completing online assignments, and while in the clinic, they observe, perform under supervision, and complete check-offs to work independently. This results in a fully immersive learning experience while ensuring patient safety.
Our interns learn head and neck anatomy, teeth morphology, perio charting, sterilization techniques, principles of instrument processing, dental chair operation, dental examination, and EPIC. Our interns learn first hand how to independently take x-rays, set-up for many different types of procedures, perform teeth cleaning for our pediatric patients, and learn how to adapt and assist our dentists based on each dentist's preferences. Helping to educate and answer questions for our patients are additional key responsibilities.
The ICHS Dental Assistant Internship Program is funded by our community supporters in honor of our visionary community activist leaders that understood that access to dental services is a health equity matter.
This internship program's mission is to uplift the next leaders in the field of dentistry. We firmly believe that access to quality health care strengthens our families and communities, and promotes a more just society. We take pride in our diverse and inclusive workforce.
